ALICIA

Assembly Lines In CIrculAtion: Smart digital tools for the sustainable, human-centric and resilient use of production resources. ALICIA aims to create and demonstrate a Circular Manufacturing Ecosystem (CME) for production resources, such as robotic arms or conveyor belts. The digital platform comprises an AI matchmaking engine, digital shadow/ digital twin generator, plug & produce middleware, and marketplace. Two industrial demonstrations, undertaken in CONTINENTAL and COMAU, will validate and improve the ALICIA CME platform in enabling design, deployment, run, decommission, and re-circulate second-hand production lines, reduce material consumption, and reuse of the assets.

YAGHMA’s role: ensure ALICIA CME is becoming an ethical, human-centric and sustainable innovation. To this aim, YAGHMA will conduct Lifecycle assessment (LCA) for second hand assembly line, social impact analysis, stakeholder mapping, materiality assessment, and an ethical assessment of the technological developments (Incl. assessment for the AI solutions being developed)

Duration: 2023-2026

Assembly Lines In CIrculAtion

The ALICIA project has an ambitious goal: to make industries more sustainable by reusing and refurbishing second-hand equipment such as machines, robots, and conveyor belts. The project uses smart technologies such as an AI matchmaking, a Digital Shadow/Twin, and a digital marketplace to make it happen.

YAGHMA’s role in the ALICIA project is to conduct two key assessment activities:

  • ELSA (Ethical, Legal, Social Aspects) Assessment: this helps set up goals that ensure the project is focused on people and follows ethical and legal rules. This allows us to listen to needs and wants of all stakeholders involved.

  • LCA (Life Cycle Assessment): This means that we can monitor how ALICIA affects the environment. We look at all the materials and how they are used to ensure it is eco-friendly.

Since ALICIA uses digital tools like AI matchmaking, YAGHMA also works to ensure these technologies are developed and used in a responsible way.

The ALICIA project is funded by the Horizon Europe programme, and led by TUM (Technical University of Munich).

Other consortium partners are:

  • Technische Universitaet Graz (AT)

  • Technische Universitaet Muenchen (DE)

  • IMT Atlantique (FR)

  • Panepistimio Patron (EL)

  • ECI Mechatronics GmbH (AT)

  • Netcompany-Intrasoft SA (LU)

  • Surplex Iberica SLU (ES)

  • Comau Spa (IT)

  • Conti Temic Microelectronic GmbH (DE)

  • MTS Consulting Engineering GmbH (DE)

  • Deutsches Institut für Normung (DE)

  • Institut Mines-Telecom (FR)

The project started on the 1st of January 2023 with a total duration of 36 months.
